Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information The Wardrobe Co collects, why we collect it, how we look after it and the choices you have. We keep it to what we need to work with you well, and we never sell it.

1. Who we are

The Wardrobe Co is a personal styling and home organising business based in Edinburgh, run by Abbey (stylist) and Andrea (organiser). For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller is Abbey McCarron and Andrea Tod trading as The Wardrobe Co, 13 Ravensheugh Road, Musselburgh, EH21 7PX.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email us at hello@thewardrobeco.uk.

2. What we collect

When you enquire or book. Your name, email address and, if you give it, your phone number. We also keep where you're based, the services you're interested in, any deadline you mention and anything you tell us about your wardrobe or space.

When we work with you. Information you share during your consultation and questionnaire, such as your lifestyle, personal style, clothing sizes, preferences and the challenges you have with your wardrobe or home. With your permission, we may take photos or videos of your wardrobe or space to plan the work, build your lookbook and record the before and after.

When you pay. Billing details and a record of what you've paid. If you pay by card, your card details are handled by our payment provider and are never seen or stored by us.

When you use our resale service. A record of the items you've given us to sell, what they sold for and what we've paid you.

When you sign up to our emails. Your email address and your marketing preferences.

When you visit our website. Technical information such as your device, browser, IP address, the pages you visit and how you reached us. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see section 8).

4. Who we share it with

We only share your information with trusted providers who help us run the business, and only what they need:

  • Shopify, which hosts our website, enquiry form and mailing list.
  • Email and payment providers, to communicate with you and take payment.
  • Our accountant, for bookkeeping and tax.
  • Resale platforms, where we list items you've asked us to sell. Listings contain details of the item only, never your personal details.

We may also share information if the law requires it. We never sell your personal information or share it with anyone for their own marketing.

5. International transfers

Some of our providers, including Shopify, may store or process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on the protections recognised under UK law, such as adequacy regulations or approved contract clauses, so your information stays protected to the same standard.

6. How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that don't go ahead: up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Client records, invoices and payment records: 6 years from the end of the tax year they relate to, as UK tax law requires.
  • Photos of your home or wardrobe: for as long as we need them for your project, or for as long as you're happy for us to use them publicly. Ask us and we'll delete them.
  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe.

7. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that's wrong or incomplete;

  • ask us to restrict or stop using it, or object to how we use it;
  • ask for your information in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from emails using the link in any of them.

To use any of these rights, email hello@thewardrobeco.uk. We'll respond within one month. There's no charge.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

You can choose which non-essential cookies to accept through the cookie banner when you first visit, and you can clear or block cookies at any time in your browser settings.

9. Keeping your information safe

We use reputable, secure providers and limit access to your information to Abbey and Andrea. Photos and notes from your consultation are kept securely and are only used for your project.

10. Children

Our services are for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
